BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL NOTE

Jean Guillot was a member of a farming family of Lafourche Parish, Louisiana.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The collection is comprised of papers of the Jean Guillot family, farmers of Lafourche Parish. A certification (1787) for land granted the son of Charles Guillot by Nicholas Verret is translated as follows: I certify that the son of Charles Guillot has a farm in his district which I have granted him since he is to be married soon and which he has worked and put in good order according to the ordinance, in faith of which I have him this document at Lafourche, October 2, 1787, Nicholas Verret.

Also included are receipts of Jean Guillot for land, taxes, court fees, and merchandise (1803-1829); a transfer of land to his son Olivier upon his marriage to Anne Oncale (1812); a disposition of land and money by Olivier Guillot and his wife to their children (1843); tax receipts of Marcellus Guillot (1850-1857); an itemized list of purchases made by Ellis Guillot (1861); and a summons to Marcellus Guillot to appear before the Justice of the Peace for mistreating his wife, Marie Thibodeaux (1863).
