BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL NOTE

Bradley Jay Knight (1887-1971) was born in Illinois and married to Grace Ella King, daughter of Eleanor McCormick Oakes and John Ellsworth King. They had four children, Jane (b. 1914), Elizabeth (b. 1915), John Jay (b. 1916), and Adeline (b. 1918).

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

Diary of Alta M. King (1871-1872) records the daily activities of a schoolgirl, social life, and family activities in Rochelle, Ill. Diaries of William H. King (1885-1894) record the daily activities of a farmer and stockman in Rochelle, Ill., including a visit to New Orleans, La., during the Cotton Centennial Exposition in Feb. 1885. Also included are two letters from a man going to California via Cape Horn during the California Gold Rush and genealogical notes on the Knight, King, Oakes, and McCormick families.
