Summary: Two hundred fifty bonds, issued by Bank of Lafayette & Trust Co., for Jungle Gardens, Inc. By resolution of the Board of Directors of Jungle Gardens, Inc., E. A. McIlhenny and J. C. Barry (President of Bank of Lafayette & Trust Co.) were empowered on September 29, 1927, to cancel these unsold bonds. The resolution and a notarial act to that effect of November 3, 1927 are bound with the bonds.

Biographical/Historical Note

Jungle Gardens, Inc. was established by Edward Avery McIlhenny, owner of Avery Island, Louisiana, as a business venture to grow and sell exotic tropical plants at affordable prices. McIlhenny's interest in wildlife and flora enabled him to acquire a wide variety of plants suitable to the climate of south Louisiana.

Scope and Contents Note

One volume contains a single November 3, 1927, notarial act passed before Rudolph J. Weinmann, notary of Orleans Parish, and consisting of two hundred fifty canceled bonds, in denominations of five hundred and one thousand dollars, issued by the Bank of Lafayette & Trust Company, for Jungle Gardens, Inc. Also included is the September 29, 1927, resolution of the Board of Directors for Jungle Gardens, Inc., authorizing E. A. McIlhenny and J. C. Barry to execute the bond cancellation.
