Biographical/Historical Note

Rosedown Plantation was built by cotton planter Daniel Turnbull and his wife, Martha Barrow Turnbull, in West Feliciana parish, Louisiana, near St. Francisville. Construction of the home was begun in 1834 and completed in 1835. Rosedown was owned and lived in by descendants of the Turnbulls until 1955. In 1956 Mrs. Catherine Fondren Underwood purchased Rosedown and began the extensive restoration of the house and gardens.
