Thursday, March 13, 2022, marked the 8 millionth download of LSU scholarship from LSU Digital Commons, the University’s institutional repository. Among the 3415 items downloaded were LSU theses and dissertations, journal articles published by LSU researchers, and articles from the open access ejournals published in the repository.
The most downloaded item was Essays on Corruption, a 2015 doctoral dissertation by Chandan Kumar Jha. It received 49 downloads that day and has been downloaded a total of 14,096 times. These days, Dr. Jha is an associate professor of finance at the Madden School of Business, Le Moyne College. The theses and dissertations in LSU Digital Commons are just one example of how LSU Digital Commons raises the visibility of LSU scholars, researchers, and their work.
The most downloaded journal article from LSU Digital Commons on March 13 was “Clothing Consumption During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Evidence from Mining Tweets,” by Chuanlan Liu, Sibei Xia, and Chunmin Lang from the LSU Department of Textiles, Apparel Design and Merchandising. Their article was published in Clothing and Textiles Research Journal. Depositing the article in LSU Digital Commons facilitates its preservation, increases its reach and impact, and includes it in the repository’s collection of LSU’s COVID-19 scholarship.
“English Language Learners: Problems and Solutions Found in the Research of General Practitioners of Early Childhood” from The Journal of Balanced Literacy Research and Instruction was downloaded 29 times on March 13 and represents an article from one of the open access journals hosted in LSU Digital Commons. Dr. Estanislado (Stan) Barrera in the School of Education is the journal’s editor-in-chief. This article has been downloaded an astounding 32,255 times from LSU Digital Commons.
“We are proud to add another milestone to the enormous growth the repository has seen recently,” said Trent Dunkin, institutional repository librarian, “many departments throughout campus and several faculty members are very excited about the repository and its benefits. 2022 has been a great year for the institutional repository as we’ve posted over 1,000 works each month.”
The LSU Libraries includes the LSU Library and the adjacent Hill Memorial Library. Together, the libraries contain more than 4 million volumes and provide additional resources such as expert staff, technology, services, electronic resources, and facilities that advance research, teaching, and learning across every discipline.
