Abe Mickal

Abe Mickal was born in Talia, Lebanon, on July 1, 1912. He arrived with his family in 1920 to the United States and settled in McComb, Mississippi. He was a Distinguished Louisiana State University Alumnus class of 1936, former LSU Student Government President of 1936, a Collegiate All Star and National Football Hall of Fame Inductee, as well as an LSU ROTC graduate, who served in World War II. He was the winner of the Outstanding Cadet Award as a freshman, Regimental Sergeant Major as a junior, Cadet Colonel as a senior, and winner of the Kemper Williams Sabre as top cadet for 1936. As a tailback, Mickal was a triple-threat star of the Bayou Bengals of 1933-1935 and was all SEC. Mickal returned to LSU to earn his Doctorate from LSU Medical School. In 1985, the Abe Mickal Professorship and Chair of Obstetrics & Gynecology of LSU Medical Center was established in his honor.
