We started football on the . . . say the first of September and of course we played all the way up to the Sugar [Bowl] . . . first of January for the last two years [1935-1936], then it was all over till we start spring training in February and then, ain’t no limit on spring training. Hell, you’d play till Bernie Moore got tired of scrimmaging. And we would scrimmage during the regular season three and four days a week. So, I always had to get out early to work with the punters and the receivers, as I say, being a center. That’s about the extent of my football at LSU. And as I say, I was fortunate enough to make two or three Southeastern Conference and All-American teams.
