Manuscript Collections McVea-Neville Family Papers Finding Aid
Description
McVea-Neville Family Papers, 1830-1917. 0.1 linear ft. Location: 50:15. The McVea-Neville Family papers consist of personal correspondence, items related to family property, and financial records. Of note is a copy of a Confederate States army substitution affidavit, dated October 24, 1864. The property records include official state and parish documents and notarized copies of various property agreements between McVea-Neville family members. Of note are a court judgment document on a family property dispute, dated December 3, 1865, and a plat map of Neville property, dated March 18, 1864. The financial records include receipts, bills of sale, ledger pages, tax rolls, credit account statements. Other items of note include a congressional report booklet on abandoned property claims, dated December 20, 1889, an insurance policy document for Mrs. M.L. Neville, dated November 6, 1903, and a monthly grade report for Albert McVea from Silliman Collegiate Institute, dated January 30, 1889. Mss. 3284.

Clair Cazayoux, a Jesuit priest, teacher and, and missionary; Gene Cazayoux, Catholic brother; librarian Vivian Cazayoux; and Drs. Francis and Robert Cazayoux. Papers consist of correspondence, sermons, church publications, travel pamphlets, speeches, and scrapbooks, reflecting careers, education, and the Catholic Church. Collection also offers insight into the political events and social conditions in Ceylon and India, and the U.S. military involvement in Korea during the 1950s and early 1960s. Johnston, J. Bennett, 1932-. Papers, 196?-1996. Ca. 500 linear ft., Location: IMJBJ, OS, Range 59-60, Vault. A Shreveport attorney and state legislator, he was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1973 and retired in 1996. In addition to energy and defense, Senator Johnston focused on navigation, flood control, hurricane protection, and other natural resources programs. Primarily records of his Senate career, including correspondence, trip files, records of his administrative and legislative assistants, legislative files, papers related to Louisiana grants and projects, speeches, news releases and photographs, and committee files. Also found are papers related to his campaigns and the Democratic Party as well as the annual Washington Mardi Gras ball and the Mystick Krewe of Louisianians. Mss. 4473.

Reynolds, Joseph M. (Joseph Melvin), 1924-1997. Papers, 1924-1990 (bulk 1962-1985). 5.3 linear ft. Location: 14:8-10. Physics professor at LSU until 1965, when he was promoted to the office of Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, and then to positions of greater responsibility, culminating in his term as Vice President for Academic Affairs. Collection documenting Dr. Reynolds' scholarly and administrative activities at LSU, and his extensive involvement in groups that directly influenced national and cooperative efforts in space science. Materials include correspondence, meeting agendas and minutes, presentation handouts, published and unpublished research papers, reports, publicity materials, photographs, films, and personal papers. Ellis family papers (1812, 1826-1987) are comprised almost entirely of personal correspondence relating to daily activities, politics, health, religion, employment, military service, education and travel of five generations. Other material includes financial papers, legal documents, speeches and lectures related to the study of law, printed items, account books, diaries, inventories, family scrapbook and minute books of United Daughters of the Confederacy, Blue Cross Chapter. The Carroll and Martina Ellis Buck papers (1922-2000) consist primarily of personal correspondence from family and friends, but include some professional correspondence, primarily from his legal and public career.
