Document from Carondelet to Nicolas Forstall, commandant at Opelousas, letting Forstall know that Josef[?] de la Pena has presented himself in Carondelet's tribunal with a petition and an account concerning payment and placement of a borrowed slave named Pedro. Written two years after the Louisiana Purchase, this circular was sent by a German retailer to announce to Spanish-speaking businesses that the cession of Louisiana to the United States has opened the way to free commerce with other countries directly.
