Currency collection, f1756-1919 (bulk 1861-1864). 275 items. Location: Vault:4. The majority of the currency was issued during the Civil War by Louisiana, individual parishes and municipalities of Louisiana, and the Confederate States of America. Some currency was also issued by United States Treasury, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Texas, Missouri, Virginia, Louisiana banks, and private businesses. Bills not related to the Civil War were issued by New Jersey (1756), North Carolina (1779), Russia (1918-1919), and include a certificate issued by the Hungarian Fund (1852), a Mississippi and Alabama Rail Road Company twenty dollar note, January 1, 1838.
