James Alexander Ventress married Sallie Mathews of Greenwood plantation, West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana, where these account books were found.. Ledgers contain accounts for Caledonia, Lake Home, and Longwood plantations of Pointe Coupee Parish. The flyleaves of both volumes bear the inscription "Ventress Brothers, Pointe Coupee Property, Ventress and Fordeche Post Office, "Caledonia," "Lake Home," "Longwood," Interior of Island, etc., Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana." Folwell-Curtis Family Papers, 1849-1912, undated .1 linear ft. Location: C:73. George W. L. Folwell moved to Mississippi from Pennsylvania in the late 1840s. One of his sisters, Rebecca McComb Folwell Curtis, lived in Wisconsin; Natchitoches, Louisiana; and Handsboro, Mississippi. Nathaniel B. Folwell was their brother. Correspondence relating family news and activities among various members of the Folwell and Curtis families and some friends. A printed booklet includes several excerpts from the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Navies regarding Nathaniel B. Folwell, who was captured during the Civil War. Bastian & Son was a firm in Bremen, Germany, importing coffee, sugar, tobacco, and other staples as well as linens, dyes, and spices. Mariatequi, Knight & Co. was a firm based in Havana, exporting sugar, coffee, molasses, and provisions to New Orleans, Louisiana, and other parts of the United States, and to Europe. The foreign trade price lists report the prices of commodities being exported and imported from Bremen, Germany (1824), St. Petersburg, Russia (1824), and Havana, Cuba (1833).
