Bovee, Albert. Letters, 1870, 1889. 6 letters. Location: Misc.:B. Louisiana State Librarian and son George E. Bovee, Louisiana Secretary of State, during Reconstruction. Five letters written during Reconstruction relate to Albert Bovee's employment and financial affairs, as well as those of his son, George E. Bovee. He questions the hiring practices and financial dealings of his son, George, with the implication of political corruption and cronyism. He writes about George's gambling addiction, and he complains about the low dollar value of state currency warrants (Feb. 19, March 19, April 11, 1870). He also gives details of a séance that he attended (March 6, 1870). The sixth letter written from Nevada, discusses his financial affairs, and the people with whom he could reside if need be (Oct. 20, 1889). For further information, see catalog record. Mss. 5108
