Flanders worked as a special agent of the U.S. Treasury Department during the federal occupation of New Orleans, lLa., later serving as governor of Louisiana. Waddill, George D. (George Daniel). Papers, 1841-1892 (bulk 1861-1865). 21 items. Location: Misc:W. Confederate soldier in the Civil War and Baton Rouge druggist. Waddill served in the 3rd Louisiana Infantry Regiment. In 1863 he was appointed as a hospital steward. Civil War papers include military furlough and travel passes; Confederate bonds; military orders assigning Waddill to hospitals in Mississippi; an 1865 document granting parole to G. D. Waddill; and Waddill's 1865 Oath of Allegiance to the United States. Collection includes a letter from L. B. LeCand written from Corinth, Mississippi, to Joanna Fox of Natchez giving an account of the Battle of Shiloh. Papers include a letter concerning shipment of confiscated cattle and the overcrowded conditions in Natchez, Miss., due to the large number of runaway slaves. Ransom tells of attempts to return some slaves to their masters and keeping others in corrals within the city. He comments that the citizenry fears the outbreak of an epidemic because of the overcrowding. Military orders concern troop movements in the Yazoo Expedition during the Vicksburg campaign. Flanders was an agent of the U.S. Treasury Department during the federal occupation of New Orleans, La.; Felix Labatut was a former member of the Louisiana Secession Convention. A receipt signed by Flanders, states that properties belonging to Felix Labatut are confiscated because of noncompliance with general order No. 76. The confiscated property was valued at $43,000.
