Motte Family Papers, 1862-1921. 41 items, 3 v. Location: Misc.: M. A family of French and African American heritage in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana. The collection contains personal and business papers of the Motte family of St. Landry Parish. Personal papers include a summary of birth and baptismal records for the children born to Blaize Motte, Sr. (October 15, 1862) and family letters. Some letters are in French. A French edition of a Catholic missal contains genealogical notes, v. 1 (1864). Business papers include a description of a tract of land purchased in St. Landry Parish (Aug. 17, 1869) and two store ledgers, v. 1(1865-1869; v. 2 (1867-1868). Ledger entries are in French. There is also a memorandum notebook (1897-1903), and several parish tax receipts (1906-1921). Mss. 3627.

Manuscript Collections New Orleans Municipal Records
Description
New Orleans Municipal Records, 1765-1898 (bulk: 1790-1837). 7.3 linear ft. Location: T:55-60, OS:N. Records consist of financial and legal papers created by the city governments of New Orleans. The papers are primarily the work of the City Council (or Conseil de Ville) and mayor. Some records date to the Spanish colonial Cabildo; most are from later years. A majority of the papers are in French, with a smaller amount in either Spanish or English. Financial papers pertain to public finances, including receipt and disbursement of monies, levy and collection of taxes, collection of fees on vehicles, markets, street peddlers, butcher shops, and city lots, and pay rolls for various public employees such as police and light service. Legal papers consist of resolutions and ordinances, which include records of legal matters settled by the council, and communications between the council and mayor regarding municipal affairs; and contracts and public works records, which include contracts for sale of property, agreements for the purchase of raw materials for street paving and other projects, and a small amount of material pertaining to the contract and purchase of fire protection equipment and services for the city. License bonds were issued for tavern keepers, boarding house owners, cart or dray drivers, and a small number of cabarets and coffee houses. Saint-Maxent Family History and Genealogy, 1795-1972. 1 v. Location: A:118. Gilbert Antoine de St. Maxent played a major role in the development of French and Spanish Louisiana. Volume contains correspondence, clippings, printed articles, genealogies, family histories, and legal  and church records pertaining to the family history of Gilbert Antoine de Saint-Maxent and his descendants. The volume is almost entirely comprised of photocopies of the originals. A few 20th century original letters are included. Some items in Spanish and French. Mss. 5255.

A mortgage and receipts (in French) concern the conveyance of slaves, and a document from the Office of Mortgages of the City of New Orleans in the Parish of Orleans (in English) states no other mortgages standing in the name of Marie Noel Cordier.
