Claussen, Francis F. Letters, 1883 January-June. 9 items. Location: Misc:C. Native of Boston, Massachusetts, and an assayer at the United States Mint at New Orleans beginning in 1885. Dr. Benjamin Silliman, a chemistry professor, organized the Sheffield Scientific School at Yale University. Letters from Claussen to Silliman concern an investigation of the assayer's department; a visit by the Canadian metallurgist, James Douglas; mineral samples from the King Mine in New Mexico; and deposits of gold and other minerals in Honduras.
