Materials reflect the administration of civil affairs such as education and legal disputes by the military, the effort to collect taxes and establish schools for freedmen, and aid given through the Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands.

Broadside announcing the celebration of the maiden voyage of the America, the 'biggest boat that ever sailed the Ouachita.'
