Why can't the library discuss my fines with my parents?

Details of student library accounts are covered under the same FERPA laws that ensure privacy of student education records. In addition, Louisiana state law also prohibits the disclosure of details of library accounts except under certain circumstances. We encourage students to contact us directly if they have questions about fines.
