On March 9, 2011, the United States Government Printing Office (GPO) sent out a press release announcing the appointment of five new members to the GPO Depository Library Council (DLC) for the 2011-2014 term.  One of the five appointees named was LSU Assistant Librarian Stephanie Braunstein.  The DLC acts in an advisory role in establishing policy matters for the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) and works closely with the Public Printer of the United States and the Assistant Public Printer/Superintendent of Documents.

Braunstein, as Head Government Documents/Microforms Librarian at Middleton, is the coordinator for LSU’s partnership with the FDLP, a program that allows libraries to receive, without charge, official publications from the U.S. government.  LSU Middleton is also designated as a Regional Depository Library, which means that it receives all publications from the program and has oversight of more than 15 smaller depositories (known as Selectives because they are allowed to select only those publications that are useful for their patrons’ needs).

In the press release, current Public Printer Bill Boarman is quoted as saying, “I am honored to appoint these talented individuals to the Council and look forward to their advice on how to advance the mission of the FDLP . . . GPO has a strong partnership with the depository library community, which is also the foundation of GPO’s mission in disseminating Government documents and information to the public.”

Braunstein begins her term in June and will be seated with DLC at the Fall Depository Library Conference in Arlington, VA later this year.
