LSU Libraries names Lois Kuyper-Rushing to Interim Assistant Dean post
BATON ROUGE – Lois Kuyper-Rushing, formerly the head of music resources in the LSU Libraries, assumed the role of interim assistant dean of the LSU Libraries on March 1. She was appointed by Interim Dean Elaine Smyth, following the retirement of Dean Jennifer Cargill.
Kuyper-Rushing has worked with the LSU Libraries since 1993, when she joined the faculty as music librarian. In 1996, she became head of the libraries' Music Resources department, an internal branch library which was developed under her supervision. A generous gift from Paula Manship gave Kuyper-Rushing the opportunity to oversee a complete renovation of the Music Resources space, which opened in 2000.
Kuyper-Rushing received masters and doctoral degrees in oboe performance from LSU in 1978 and 1990, respectively, and a Master of Library Science degree from LSU in 1992. She earned her undergraduate degree in oboe performance from Central College in Pella, Iowa. Prior to coming to LSU, Kuyper-Rushing was a music cataloger at the Kansas State University Library.
"I look forward to working with Interim Dean Smyth on planning for the future of the LSU Libraries during this time of transition for the campus and the LSU System," Kuyper-Rushing said. "I am excited by her vision for developing the libraries and its services as we anticipate the national search for a new dean."
