Public outreach is a main component of the mission statement for the Williams Center for Oral History. Beyond raising awareness about the field of oral history through presentations, exhibitions, and publications, the Center has dozens of ongoing partnerships with community groups, professional organizations, researchers, university and high school teachers and students, and individuals. Partners work with the director and staff to create oral history projects and then donate the materials to the Center so that the interviews will be preserved and made publicly accessible.

Lately, two of the Williams Center partners have been busy and are making news: The Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection, and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) is documenting Louisiana's coastal culture through the oral history project and art exhibition, "I Remember." Dr. Alecia Long is spreading the word about oral history at a Women's History Month lecture, featuring her project, "Listening to Louisiana Women."
