LSU Libraries participates in SpringFest 2013 and Preview LSU

On April 27, LSU Libraries participated in SpringFest (Spring Invitational Information Fair) in the Atchafalaya Room of the LSU Student Union. Forty-six high school students (who are, of course, also prospective LSU students) were in attendance for the weekend and were given information about the library by Linda Smith Griffin, Head of Cataloging, and Mitch Fontenot, Outreach Librarian. The students were given information about Hill Memorial Library's and Middleton Library’s products and services, such as subject librarians, LIS 1001, electronic resources, and Special Collections; also, the Libraries' website was demonstrated on an iPad.

On May 3, one thousand prospective LSU students and their parents attended Preview LSU, an opportunity to see the LSU campus and the organizations and services the university has to offer. Judy Bolton (Head of Public Services at Hill Memorial Library), Tara Laver (Interim Head of Special Collections), and Mitch Fontenot (Outreach Librarian) met with the students and parents and distributed information about the services that Hill Memorial Library and Middleton Library offer to LSU students, such as the newspaper digitization project, LIS 1001, and various electronic resources for student research.

The LSU Libraries includes the LSU Library and the adjacent Hill Memorial Library. Together, the libraries contain more than 4 million volumes and provide additional resources such as expert staff, technology, services, electronic resources, and facilities that advance research, teaching, and learning across every discipline.
