LSU Libraries host summer scholars

On July 23, 2013, Jessica Lacher-Feldman (Head of Special Collections), Tara Laver (Curator of Manuscripts), and Mitch Fontenot (Instruction and Outreach Librarian) gave presentations to the 37 incoming freshmen who are part of the LSU University College’s Summer Scholars program. Lacher-Feldman and Laver presented on Hill Memorial Library Special Collections and Fontenot presented on the libraries’ home page, databases, and LIS 1001. Students were provided with the opportunity to ask questions of the librarians and given handouts with additional information about LSU Libraries.

The Summer Scholars program, headed by Annette Yancy, “is an eight-week summer bridge program that prepares selected under-represented minority students to make a successful transition from high school to the University” (from the Summer Scholars Program website at http://uiswcmsweb.prod.lsu.edu/universitycollege/UC_SSP/index.html).

The LSU Libraries includes the LSU Library and the adjacent Hill Memorial Library. Together, the libraries contain more than 4 million volumes and provide additional resources such as expert staff, technology, services, electronic resources, and facilities that advance research, teaching, and learning across every discipline.
