STRIPES students visit LSU Libraries

On July 31, representatives of Hill Memorial Library and Middleton Library made presentations to 255 enrollees of the STRIPES (Student Tigers Rallying, Interacting, & Promoting Education & Service) program. At Middleton Library, the students were introduced to services such as laptops for checkout at the circulation desk, study and presentation rooms, print services, the tutorial center, and CC’s Coffee Shop. Students at Hill Memorial Library learned about what is “special” about Special Collections and how primary source materials from Hill’s vast holdings can help further their research and learning. Students were also able to see (with the help of a magnifying glass!) LSU Libraries’ smallest book, one of the Libraries’ oldest books (printed in 1483), and a cuneiform clay tablet, one of the earliest examples of writing (which dates from about 2500 B.C.).

Hill Memorial Library and Middleton Library will host more STRIPES participants on August 7 and 14.

More information on this program can be found at http://stripes.lsu.edu/.

The LSU Libraries includes the LSU Library and the adjacent Hill Memorial Library. Together, the libraries contain more than 4 million volumes and provide additional resources such as expert staff, technology, services, electronic resources, and facilities that advance research, teaching, and learning across every discipline.
