October on the LSU campus is a bustle of students, faculty, and football fans.  The LSU Libraries has been along for the excitement and to help thousands of students, new and returning, learn how to excel in their academic endeavors.

On October 8, Mitch Fontenot, Instruction and Outreach Librarian, spoke to members of the Global Connections Residential Life Program.  Students in the program focus on international engagement and global interconnections and live together in a residential hall.  Fontenot spoke to them about the many library resources available to them, including the LSU Libraries website, ebooks, databases, and the subject specialists available to students in every major.  Certain sections of LIS 1001 are dedicated to Global Connections students, and a librarian offers research help at their residential hall one hour a day Mondays through Thursdays.

On October 9, Emily Frank, Instructional Technologies and Engineering Librarian, joined Fontenot to represent the LSU Libraries at TechPawLooza in the Cotillion Ballroom of the Student Union. TechPawLooza showcased more than forty technology exhibits this year, from LSU and companies in the industry.  LSU students, faculty, and visiting high school and middle school students learned about information technology in a casual and entertaining setting.

Finally, on Friday, Oct. 11, the LSU Libraries participated in Fall Fest, a pre-midterm celebration for LSU students.  Fall Fest features food, music, and LSU department displays.  With a dedicated team of volunteers at its table, LSU Libraries made contact with almost 1500 students during the three-hour festival, spreading the word about many services LSU Libraries has to offer.
