Elaine Smyth receives Outstanding Academic Librarian Award

Elaine Smyth is the recipient of the 2014 Outstanding Academic Librarian Award presented by the Louisiana Library Association's Academic Section. Smyth serves as Interim Dean of LSU Libraries and Kathleen and Joel Ory Endowed Professor.

From July 2011 to February 2013, Smyth was Assistant Dean of LSU Libraries. She was Head of LSU Libraries Special Collections from November 2006 to June 2011 and Curator of LSU Libraries Special Collections from July 1999 to October 2006. She is the current chair of the Louisiana Advisory Council for the State Documents Depository Program, and has written books and many articles on rare books and manuscripts.

Smyth fulfills the evaluation criteria for the Academic award with no difficulty. Throughout her career she has served as a model for other librarians and aspiring librarians, has had an impact on the profession of librarianship as a whole and within her specialty discipline. She has conducted research and shared it, and participated actively in professional activities. The award will be presented at the upcoming Louisiana Library Association conference.
