LSU Libraries celebrates Women's History Month

In honor of Women's History Month 2014, LSU Libraries has created a slide show showcasing twenty amazing “firsts” by women beginning in 1849 and ending in 2008.  The timeline represents an international panel of women who broke gender and racial barriers with their achievements.

LSU Special Collections in Hill Memorial Library provided information and photos for six of the women featured--Caroline Durieux, Pinkie Gordon Lane, Margaret “Maggie” Dixon, Margaret Jameson, Margaret Pereboom, and Catherine Long.  LSU Special Collections has archival collections related to these women.

Who was the first woman veteran to serve in Congress?  Which country elected the first woman prime minister?   Stop by the display table inside Middleton 141 to find out these answers and more. You can also browse women's history books that can be checked out.
