LSU Libraries bestows 2014 student assistant awards

The LSU Libraries Student Assistant Awards honor outstanding student employees of the LSU Libraries. The awards were established to acknowledge the vital role student workers play in the success of LSU Libraries. They open and close departments, assist patrons in a variety of ways, and sometimes are first-responders in emergency situations. The recipients of the 2014 Student Assistant Awards are Darilyn Martin of Interlibrary Loan Services and Katie Blanchard of Special Collections Public Services.

Darilyn Martin is a senior majoring in Sociology. Her supervisor, Megan Lounsberry, said, “I’m thrilled that Darilyn Martin has won the Student Assistant Award. She has an inspiring work ethic, and her commitment to Interlibrary Loan Services over the last three years has been a blessing to our department.”

Katie Blanchard is a Kinesiology senior, and her supervisor, Germain Bienvenu, said, “Katie’s work was characterized by constancy. She handled anything tossed to her, no matter how time consuming, tedious, or challenging. And much was handed over to her because of her consistent adherence to schedule and her conscientious approach to work. On top of that, she was congenial with everyone: patrons, staff, and fellow students.”

In addition to the main awards, the following student workers received honorable mentions.

  • Gabrielle Hauth - Special Collections Public Services
  • Jessica Hornbuckle - Research and Instruction Services
  • Katherine Hammer - Research and Instruction Services
  • Kyle Neff - Special Collections Public Services
  • Larissa Elliott - Interlibrary Loan Services
  • Victoria Hutson - Interlibrary Loan Services

Many thanks to the student workers who provide such excellent service to LSU Libraries and the entire LSU community.

The LSU Libraries includes the LSU Library and the adjacent Hill Memorial Library. Together, the libraries contain more than 4 million volumes and provide additional resources such as expert staff, technology, services, electronic resources, and facilities that advance research, teaching, and learning across every discipline.
