Judy Bolton, Head of Public Services in Special Collections, was promoted to Senior General Librarian effective January 1, 2015.  In addition, Bolton, who has been with LSU Libraries for just over thirty years, was also recently awarded the first Friends of the LSU Libraries Faculty Service Award.  This award "recognizes a faculty member for establishing a record of outstanding service to the LSU community".

Judy’s record of service and commitment to LSU and to LSU Libraries is very impressive.  In nominating her for this award, Judy’s colleagues described her as "unfailingly reliable and thorough in all aspects of her work, always solicitous to ensure that users of Special Collections will receive the best service possible.”

Among Judy’s many responsibilities is her work with publishers and authors who wish to use Special Collections materials in their works. Through Judy’s knowledge, insight, and attention to detail, hundreds of articles, books, documentary films and other projects have used Hill resources.  Her in-depth knowledge of the collections, and her willingness to continue to impart that knowledge to her colleagues, students, and library patrons is a testament to her ongoing commitment to LSU Libraries. She is respected and sought out by researchers, and scholars regularly cite her excellent assistance in publication acknowledgements.

Judy attended the University of Kansas and Northeast Missouri State University. She holds a BA and MA in History. She held posts as an associate in public services and manuscripts processing archivist before being named Head of Special Collections Public Services in 1990.

When not at work, Judy enjoys spending time baking, sewing, knitting and reading. All of the faculty and staff at Hill Memorial Library are happy beneficiaries of her baking skills, as she brings in a homemade treat on the birthday of each and every staff member. Her cinnamon rolls are the stuff of legend.
