On Monday, October 19th, at 10:00 a.m., October Ivins, Principal and Consultant, Ivins eContent Solutions, will deliver a presentation, "Exploring the eBook Ecosystem and an Overview of the Charlotte Initiative: Permanent Acquisitions of eBooks for Academic Libraries." The talk will take place in the Hill Memorial Library lecture hall. Ivins will discuss ebook formats, publisher challenges, library challenges and goals, and best practices.

As an independent consultant, Ivins assists publishers and other content providers, associations, libraries, and consortia.  Projects typically include market research, pricing, and/or marketing strategy.  She began her career as an academic librarian at UNC and LSU and then completed PhD coursework in LIS (digital libraries and the information industry, and qualitative research methods) at UT Austin.  She was an executive at two Boston area publishing services startups before becoming a consultant.  Ivins is a past president of both NASIG and SSP and currently chairs the ALA ALCTS President’s Program 2016 Committee. She is a frequent speaker at professional meetings, including ALA, AAUP, Charleston Conference, Electronic Resources and Libraries (ER&L), International Coalition of Library Consortia (ICOLC), NASIG (formerly the North American Serials Interest Group). National Federation of Abstracting and Information Services (NFAIS), Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP), and the Texas Library Association (TLA). Ivins has consulted on ebook projects since 2004 and presently serves as the Project Consultant for the Mellon funded Charlotte Initiative: Permanent Acquisitions of eBooks for Academic Libraries. From 1987 until 1995, Ivins was the head of Serials Services and later Acquisitions Services at LSU.  She earned tenure and promotion to Associate Librarian and chaired the Library Tenure and Promotion Committee.
