LSU Libraries will be well represented at the final performance of the 2015/2016 season of the Louisiana Sinfonietta.  Under the direction of LSU Boyd Professor Dinos Constantinides, the Louisiana Sinfonietta will present a concert on Sunday, April 3, 2016, at 2:00 pm in the LSU School of Music Recital Hall.  The concert will feature Alvaro Angulo, a graduate assistant in the LSU Libraries’ Carter Music Resources Center, as cello soloist, performing concertos by Faure and Eccles.  Two original compositions by LSU Libraries staff will be premiered at the concert: “Breathe,” by Music Resources Supervisor Mikel Ledee, and “The Chase,” by Terrell Jones, a Music Resources library assistant and PhD student in music composition.  In addition, two Music Resources library assistants will be performing in the Sinfonietta ensemble: Hannah Urdea, a DMA candidate in violin performance, and Thomaz Rodrigues, a Master of Music candidate in cello. 

“I’m excited that so many Carter Music Resources staff will be featured by such a superb ensemble as the Louisiana Sinfonietta, and I’m honored that the ensemble will be performing one of my own compositions,” Music Resources Supervisor Mikel Ledee noted.

The Louisiana Sinfonietta is a professional ensemble that plays a wide variety of music, from the Baroque through the Classical, Romantic, and 20th century eras, and is an independent, nonprofit organization wholly supported by its patrons and state and local grants.

Other upcoming musical performances by library staff: Thomaz Rodrigues will perform his Master of Music cello recital on Friday, April 1, at 5:30 pm, and Guillermo Quirós (a Music Resources student assistant and LSU undergraduate in cello performance) will perform his senior cello recital on Thursday, March 31, at 5:30 pm.  The location of both recitals is the LSU School of Music Recital Hall.
