LSU was recognized on June 13, 2016, at the annual Special Libraries Association (SLA) convention, during an event that presented a countdown of the top U.S. universities, ranked by the number of papers their subject specialist librarians have published over the previous 5 years in a standardized selection of 14 library journals from their respective fields. From 2011-2015, subject librarians from 278 US universities published 1,255 articles. The countdown was based on a study conducted by Amy Hardin and Tony Stankus titled "The 2016 Rankings: The Top 25 U.S. Universities Publishing Articles that Advanced Subject Specialized Librarianship 2011-2015." LSU placed 15th in most productive U.S. universities for subject specialist publications.
