Emily Frank, Research and Instruction Librarian, received an OER Research Fellowship through the Open Education Group. Frank is one out of 20 scholars selected as a 2016-2018 OER Research Fellow. The research fellows will conduct research on the impact of open educational resources on the cost of education, student success outcomes, patterns of usage of OER, and perceptions of OER. The fellowship, which is sponsored by the Hewlett Foundation, provides full funding to attend the Open Education Conference Nov. 2-4 in Richmond, VA. The annual conference is recognized as the premiere venue for sharing research, development, advocacy, design, and other work relating to open education.
In addition, Frank was accepted for Open Con, an invitation-only conference organized by SPARC that focuses on Open Access, Open Education, and Open Data. The conference welcomes students and early career academic professionals from around the world and hosts keynote speakers, panels, and workshops to catalyze action on the focus areas. Open Con received more than 1,000 applications from over 170 countries. Frank received a full scholarship from the Association of Research Libraries to attend the conference Nov. 12-14 in Washington, DC.
