LSU Libraries welcomes Sarah Simms as the Undergraduate and Student Success Librarian. She holds a BA in international relations from Boston University, and received her MSLIS from the Palmer School at Long Island University. In New York, Simms gained more than eight years of experience in librarianship from The Burns Archive, Watson Library, and Ursus Rare Books. Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, she moved to Louisiana in 2013 and joined Nicholls State University, where she served  as the research and instruction librarian and head of the serials department. At Nicholls, Simms restructured the freshmen-level information literacy classes and led the Open Textbook Network.

“My overarching goal here at LSU Libraries is to promote and provide information literacy instruction at every turn with a focus on undergraduates,” says Simms. “Information literacy is intrinsically tied to student success, and I hope to enhance this connection through the creation of new and innovative ways to teach information literacy.”

In her free time, Simms enjoys gardening, listening to podcasts, and fulfilling her love of antiques. She is very active in state and regional library associations, including the Louisiana Library Association and the Southeastern Library Association.
