Music in Middleton, Monday, April 24th, 12:30 PM

Music in MiddletonThe ordinarily quiet lobby of Middleton Library will briefly become a music recital hall at 12:30 PM on Monday, April 24th, as the library hosts “Music in Middleton,” a concert event featuring musicians from the LSU School of Music.

The concert will include performances by a string quintet and a cello duo.  The musicians of the quintet are Mariana Krewer (violin), Chia-Shan Hsu (violin), Maricel Mendez (viola), Unusdian Errandonea (cello), and Carmen Rodriguez (double bass), and they will perform “String Quintet No. 2, Op. 77,” by Antonín Dvořák.  The cello duet is comprised of Wagner Duarte and Raudol Palacios, and they will perform an original composition, “Apt. #106.”

“This event will serve as a mutually beneficial opportunity for the library and the School of Music,” said Kelly Blessinger, LSU Libraries’ Head of Access Services and one of the organizers of the event.  “The patrons and staff of the library will enjoy a free musical performance during a non-obtrusive time, and the musicians will gain experience in performing material before an audience.”  Mikel LeDee, supervisor of the library’s Carter Music Resources Center and another organizer of the event, added that this concert could be the first of a series of musical performances at Middleton.  “It is the hope that a concert series like this would increase the awareness of recitals and other events at the LSU School of Music,” said LeDee.

The LSU Libraries includes the LSU Library and the adjacent Hill Memorial Library. Together, the libraries contain more than 4 million volumes and provide additional resources such as expert staff, technology, services, electronic resources, and facilities that advance research, teaching, and learning across every discipline.
