On Monday, August 28, from 11 a.m. until noon, visitors to the Paper Tigers & Biblio-Beasts: Creatures in the Collections exhibit in Hill Memorial Library will get to meet more than paper and biblio-animals. The Wildlife Hospital of Louisiana at Louisiana State University will be visiting outside of Hill Memorial Library with some special guests: Scarlett, a red-tailed hawk; Nutmeg their barred owl; Cricket a broad-winged hawk; and Skyler, a Mississippi kite.

The mission of the Wildlife Hospital of Louisiana at Louisiana State University is to provide veterinary care for injured and orphaned wildlife, conduct conservation research, and educate the public about wildlife conservation. Within the WHL, eight veterinary students volunteer their time to serve as co-chairs of the hospital's raptor unit. These students are responsible for the daily care and rehabilitation of avian patients that are deemed as possible release candidates. Additionally, these students care for the school's resident raptors, which are former patients of the hospital who were not healthy enough to be released. These birds now serve as education ambassadors for their species, and come on educational talks given by the co-chairs.
