LSU Libraries welcomes Hayley Johnson
Hayley Johnson has joined LSU Libraries faculty as Head, Government Documents and Microforms. Johnson began working in academic libraries in 2012. She started as the Government Information Librarian at Nicholls State University where she was in charge of a small selective depository that received federal and state documents, and she worked to expand the reach and use of government documents through tools such as video tutorials and course guides. Prior to working in an academic library, Johnson was an information specialist for the David R. Poynter Legislative Research Library at the Louisiana House of Representatives.
Johnson is in charge of the government documents collection located in the basement of Middleton Library and the daily operations of the department. As the regional depository coordinator, she oversees the federal depository program in Louisiana and she assists depository libraries in fulfilling their roles in the program.
Additionally, Johnson connects with students and faculty by providing reference services and developing online resources in the use of government documents. “One of the primary goals I hope to achieve while at LSU is increasing the awareness and utilization of our very expansive government documents collection,” she said. “Many students don’t realize the types of information that can be found within government documents and how helpful it can be in their coursework and research.”
Johnson is an LSU alumna from Bourg, Louisiana. She enjoys traveling, reading, watching movies, and spending time with her puppy, Bella. She also loves doing boxing and kickboxing to de-stress.
