Nick Skaggs recently became LSU Libraries' new Manuscripts Processing Archivist for Special Collections. Skaggs has worked for LSU Libraries since July 2016 when he accepted his first position as a library associate in the Public and Research Services Department at LSU Libraries Special Collections in Hill Memorial Library.
As a processing archivist, Skaggs preserves, arranges and describes manuscript collections in the Louisiana and Lower Mississippi Valley Collections (LLMVC). He creates finding aids, catalog records, and subject guide entries for collections. He provides reference services at public service points in Hill Memorial Library. Additionally, he will assist in the implementation of EAD and archival management software.
Before joining LSU Libraries, Skaggs processed personal papers, library organizational records, and other archival materials as a student archivist at the special collections department of the East Baton Rouge Parish Library. He also processed current and historical governmental records as a records management analyst at a state government agency.
Skaggs is an LSU alumnus from St. Francisville, Louisiana. He is an avid reader and video game enthusiast who also enjoys studying Spanish.
The LSU Libraries includes the LSU Library and the adjacent Hill Memorial Library. Together, the libraries contain more than 4 million volumes and provide additional resources such as expert staff, technology, services, electronic resources, and facilities that advance research, teaching, and learning across every discipline.
