Matthew Jordan has joined LSU Libraries as Technical Services Cataloging Associate in Special Collections. Jordan has worked for The Center for Southeast Louisiana Studies and Archives and the Department of History and Political Science as a Graduate Assistant while at Southeastern Louisiana University.

As Technical Services Cataloging Associate, Jordan verifies, edits, and updates monograph and serial holding information. He creates MARC record holdings and edits bibliographic records for Special Collection specific materials. Jordan manages stack maintenance, which includes processing new materials, evaluating the preservation needs of materials, and applying specialized conservation techniques for challenging objects. He also hires, trains, and supervises student workers assigned to these tasks.

Jordan came to Special Collections because he has an interest and strong desire to work in archives and preserving our history for future generations.  “As an aspiring archivist and historical researcher, I would be hard-pressed to find a better place to work than Hill Memorial Library,” he adds. Jordan hopes to learn and gain experience in Special Collections/Archival Practice while making a genuine contribution to the field.

Matthew Jordan is from Washington Parish, but has lived in in the Hammond area of Tangipahoa Parish for the last five years. He has Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from Southeastern Louisiana University, and is currently working on earning a Master of Library and Information Science degree from LSU. Jordan enjoys reading, historical research, studying French, violin, and the outdoors. He is also a member the state’s Army National Guard and has served for six years.
