After you enjoy Wednesday's Music in Middleton concert at noon, join us in Hill Memorial Library for an Afternoon in the Archives event showcasing a few of our treasures on women in music from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century.  You can view an assortment of letters, diaries, photographs, publications, record albums, music manuscripts, and printed sheet music from the United States and Europe, with an emphasis on the musical accomplishments of women in Louisiana.  Come and be enthralled by (just to name a few):

• A facsimile of the Gradual of Gisela von Kerssenbrock, a thirteenth-century illuminated music manuscript created by a Cistercian nun in Germany
• Autographed publicity photos of famous twentieth-century opera divas (like the one shown here!)
• A music manuscript by Léona Queyrouze Barel, the noted writer, poet, essayist, and musician of New Orleans (see a snippet below)
• The diary of the teenage daughter of the biggest music dealer and publisher in New Orleans, with accounts of musical life in the city in the 1880s

The Afternoon in the Archives begins after Middleton Library's noontime performance on Wednesday, February 21, and will be held in the McIlhenny Room of Hill Memorial Library.  The event closes around 3:00.
