Amanda Hawk has joined LSU Libraries faculty as Special Collections Head of Public & Research Services.

In her new position, Hawk will manage and coordinate all aspects of the LSU Libraries Special Collections' reference services and public services.  She will also coordinate assessment and metrics for Special Collections, contribute to Special Collections’ outreach strategies, and collaborate with the Research and Instruction librarians to provide direction for research services at LSU Libraries.

Hawk hopes to build upon the excellent quality of service provided by the staff at Special Collections. According to Hawk, “I am most excited to find innovative ways to engage with both existing and new researchers in the LSU community, in Louisiana, and beyond to increase the use of our unique collections."

Hawk has a BA in History from Susquehanna University, and an MA in History and Master of Library Science degree from the University of Maryland (College Park). Prior to accepting her new position, Hawk worked as a Special Collections Archivist and Athletics Archivist at the University of Maryland at College Park. She began her career as a Public Services Assistant at Princeton’s Mudd Manuscript Library.

A native of Pennsylvania, Hawk is looking forward to traveling in the South and Southwest. In her spare time, she enjoys running, cooking, and reading a wide variety of fiction and nonfiction.
