General Syed Ali Zamin Memorial Scholarship recipient

LSU Libraries is pleased to announce Karielle Davis as the recipient of the General Syed Ali Zamin Memorial Scholarship for the fall 2018 and spring 2019 semesters. Davis, a New Orleans native, is a sophomore Kinesiology major. She has worked in the circulation unit since September 2016 where she has the responsibility of making sure that books are shelved in the proper order and enjoys helping people while she works on her shelving assignments. In addition to working in the library, Davis is a member of Volunteer LSU, a student organization formed after Hurricane Katrina to coordinate volunteer opportunities. She has participated in the Louisiana Marathon to assist physical therapists with giving medical attention to runners and stretching them out after the race.

“I am humbled and greatly appreciative for being the chosen recipient of this year's General Zamin scholarship," said David. "I put a lot of time, energy and consideration into being the best employee that I can be along with delivering the best customer service I possibly can. It feels great to know that I'm appreciated and thank you to the Access Services committee for your acknowledgment.”

The Zamin Scholarship was established in the fall of 2014 by the Zamin family in memory of their father. After serving as an officer of the Pakistan army beginning in World War II and rising to the rank of lieutenant general, General Syed Ali Zamin retired and was appointed as a Pakistani ambassador to four countries. He moved to the United States to pursue a third career as a library associate, working for 12 years as the LSU Libraries head stacks supervisor. The scholarship is awarded to a student assistant in the Access Services department who demonstrates the same professional work ethic and love for LSU Libraries as General Zamin did.

The LSU Libraries includes the LSU Library and the adjacent Hill Memorial Library. Together, the libraries contain more than 4 million volumes and provide additional resources such as expert staff, technology, services, electronic resources, and facilities that advance research, teaching, and learning across every discipline.
