LSU Libraries welcomes Randa Lopez Morgan to a new position

Randa Lopez Morgan is LSU Libraries’ new Events and Programming Librarian. Morgan began working at the Libraries as a Graduate Assistant in Research and Instruction Services in August 2013, then was hired in Research and Instruction Services as the Agriculture Support Librarian after graduating with her master’s in Library and Information Science from LSU in 2015.

As the Events and Programming Librarian, Morgan creates a more supportive and welcoming environment that enriches the college experience for students through the development and facilitation of programs and events in the Libraries. Morgan also remains the liaison to the College of Agriculture and continues working with students, faculty, and staff on their research needs, building information literacy skills, and collection development.

“My goal for the first year is to create a programming system so that people with ideas can get them to me and we can plan how to go from idea to reality,” Morgan said. With her new position, Morgan says she hopes to help organize and mainstream the programming coming out of the Libraries. Morgan says she would also like to build a solid foundation of programming and create programs that will continue to grow long after she is gone.

Additional goals Morgan has for her new position include making the Libraries a “home away from home” for students and creating additional programming for faculty and staff within and outside of the library. Morgan says she wants students to see the Libraries as a place to hang out with friends, create memories, and build a community. When it comes to faculty and staff programming, Morgan says she feels that faculty and staff are often left out of events at the library when they are also people we should be reaching out to.

Morgan was born in Nashville, Tennessee but calls Stonewall, Louisiana her home. Morgan earned her bachelor’s degree in Organizational Communication from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, then went on to earn her master’s degree at LSU.

Morgan is a huge fan of the Harry Potter series and says she is a proud Slytherin. She also enjoys running and ran her first marathon in January 2018. Other hobbies include being an official for Red Stick Roller Derby and an active participant in a parade dance krewe, the Baton Rouge BeignYAYs. Morgan loves dogs and says she only wants to buy a house so she can have at least three dogs.

The LSU Libraries includes the LSU Library and the adjacent Hill Memorial Library. Together, the libraries contain more than 4 million volumes and provide additional resources such as expert staff, technology, services, electronic resources, and facilities that advance research, teaching, and learning across every discipline.
