The Problem with Apu: Film Screening and Panel Discussion
As part of Media Literacy Week, LSU Libraries will be hosting a film screening of "The Problem with Apu" on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 4:30 p.m. in Hill Memorial Library Lecture Hall. A panel discussion about media representation and stereotypes will follow. Snacks will be provided.
"The Problem with Apu," a feature length comedic documentary from truTV, was created by and stars comedian Hari Kondabolu as he examines the East Indian convenience store owner, Apu, on the long-running TV series, "The Simpsons." truTv, part of Turner, a WarnerMedia company, is the home for original, creator-driven comedy series with a distinct point of view.
The panel includes:
- Asiya Alam, assistant professor with the Department of History
- Joni Butcher, senior instructor with the Department of Communication
- Quincy Hodges, doctoral candidate with the Manship School of Mass Communication
