Art & Design Librarian Marty Miller is serving as an embedded librarian this semester for courses ID 1051— Intro to Interior Design and ARTH 1440— Historical Survey of the Arts.

LSU Libraries subject librarians frequently embed in courses pertaining to their areas of expertise. Embedding a librarian in college courses provides the students with personalized assistance on assignments. It gives the subject librarian the opportunity to emphasize the correlation between library and research work outside of the library as well as develop relationships with students in their field.

Miller provides research support for specific assignments to the over 500 students enrolled in these courses. When students are ready to work on their research assignment, Miller delivers information literacy instruction in class and creates Research Guides that list instructions on how to get started and provides links to print and online information sources. Embedded librarianship provides additional academic support, which is especially important in courses with a large number of students.

Miller's contact with the students enrolled in these courses is through half-hour research consultations that seem to have the greatest positive impact on the quality of the students' completed assignments, according to the course instructors.
