Darcée Olson has joined LSU Libraries as Copyright and Scholarly Communications Policy Director.

In her position, Olson is responsible for providing instruction in copyright and authors’ rights, reviewing electronic resource licenses, and providing insight into license negotiations. Additionally, she advises the Libraries' administration on copyright and scholarly communications policy, internally and externally. Darcée is also responsible for developing and implementing the Libraries' scholarly communication strategy.

Olson holds a juris doctorate from Southwestern University School of Law, and a Bachelors of Arts in Business and Humanities from Golden Gate University. Her legal studies include an intensive summer copyright workshop at the University of Buenos Aires. Olson spent three terms as a visiting student at the Program in Comparative Media Law and Policy at Oxford University where she worked on a Broadcast Standards report for Parliament. After Oxford, she spent a summer in Montreal with her family while working on an internship with UNESCO Chair in Communications Policy, Marc Raboy. She also completed an internship in licensing and contracts at Fox Television and served as a law clerk in the copyright department at the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). Olson has taught courses in copyright, art law, and business courses specifically designed for art students.

A native of Santa Cruz, California, Olson says she is delighted to join the LSU Libraries team and to serve as a resource on copyright/fair use and to advance the libraries scholarly communications goals. She enjoys traveling, research, board games, and a variety of public service activities.
