Top LSU officials, members of LSU Libraries' Dean's Advisory Council, and representatives from Steelcase, Frost-Barber, the Libraries, and the student body gathered on Sept. 5 to celebrate the grand opening of the transformation of Middleton Library's first-floor lobby. The transformation took place over the summer, replacing outdated furniture and inadequate power with private desks, couches, booths, tables, seating, and dry erase boards. Bag hooks and nearly 100 power outlets can be found throughout the furniture.

Frost-Barber CEO, Doug Jehle, a member of the Libraries Dean’s Advisory Council, helped the Libraries secure an in-kind furniture grant through Steelcase Furniture Company substantially reducing the cost of the furniture upgrades in Middleton Library.

"Sometimes I have to walk around the new area a few times to find an empty space to sit, because students use it so much," said Camryn Curtis, a Mass Communication junior. The area stays occupied from morning to night every weekday, with students especially utilizing the private study pods.

"It's a nice, comfortable place to study away from home, especially since there are outlets and whiteboards available," said Communication Studies sophomore Carly Burns. Students have also said they were impressed with how colorful and stylish the new furniture is.
