LSU Libraries remains here to support the academic mission of the university by fostering teaching, learning, and research. In this unprecedented time requiring flexibility of services, the Libraries have pivoted to provide the same services you expect in a digital environment.

LSU Libraries’ Research & Instruction Services librarians provide outreach, instruction, and specialized research services to faculty and students. The following services have been adapted to support teaching faculty as they transition to an online or HyFlex academic environment:

• Instruction Sessions– Subject specialist librarians remotely deliver instruction sessions in undergraduate and graduate courses. These librarians coordinate with instructors to design lessons that are tailored to the research skills students need for specific assignments and projects. They teach information literacy and scholarly research skills such as how to develop a research topic and how to evaluate sources in a variety of classes across all disciplines. These instruction sessions can be taught via Zoom or prerecorded for asynchronous classes. If you’re interested in inviting a librarian to teach an instruction session in your class this semester, you can submit a request or email your subject specialist librarian.
• Embedded Library Instruction– Subject specialist librarians can be added to your Moodle course to provide ongoing, integrated information literacy instruction. Librarians can be involved through discussion boards, quizzes, tutorials, and more.
• Online Research Tools– Subject specialist librarians create online research guides and video tutorials to support the research needs of LSU students. Research guides organize trusted resources (databases, journals, online sources) for a topic or course into a webpage that is accessible 24/7. There are currently almost 200 research guides available at LSU Libraries for various topics, courses, and majors. These research guides can be added to your course’s Moodle page.
• Information Literacy Tutorials– LSU Libraries offers a series of four tutorials that cover their stated learning objectives for information literacy. These accessible, multimedia tutorials also include quizzes as knowledge checks. Instructors can assign any or all of these tutorials to students. These tutorials can be offered for credit.
• Research Consultations– Subject specialist librarians can assist students and faculty remotely with any of their research questions. These meetings can be held virtually via Zoom. Encourage your students to make an appointment with a librarian, if they need research assistance.
• E-Textbooks/Online Course Materials– LSU Libraries’ E-Textbooks program provides instructors with an easy-to-use search tool to identify e-books that the Libraries either already owns or can purchase for use in courses. Faculty can search for eligible e-books on the E-Textbooks for Faculty page. Other course materials, such as film access, can be requested through your subject specialist librarian.
