Adam Matthew Digital is an academic publisher specializing in online primary source databases. LSU Libraries has recently subscribed to four of the databases, covering an array of topics from Early Modern England to the Mass Observation Project.
The Early Modern England project offers rare and invaluable sources for examining the lived experience of people who witnessed this pivotal era of English history. From 'ordinary' people through to more prominent individuals and families, these documents show how everyday working, family, religious, and administrative life was experienced across England.
The Mass Observation project was launched in 1981 by the University of Sussex as a rebirth of the original 1937 Mass Observation. Its founders' aim was to document the social history of Britain by recruiting volunteers to write about their lives and opinions. Still growing, it is a source for qualitative social data in the UK. This collection consists of the questionnaires sent out by Mass Observation in the 1980s and the thousands of responses to them from hundreds of mass observers.
The Ethnomusicology project delves into the cultural study of music and allows one to explore content from across the globe. Produced in tandem with the UCLA Ethnomusicology Archive, the material in this collection includes thousands of audio field recordings and interviews, educational recordings, film footage, field notebooks, slides, correspondence, and ephemera from over 60 fields of study.
The Stationer’s Company Archives, included in the Literary Print Culture project, is one of the most important resources for understanding the workings of the early book trade, the printing and publishing community, the establishment of legal requirements for copyright provisions, and the history of bookbinding. The archive even includes extremely rare documents dating from 1554 to the 21st century and is an invaluable resource of research material for historians and literary scholars.
These four new resources further support our mission to foster teaching, learning, and research across the university. Over 300 databases can be accessed on the A-Z Databases list.
The LSU Libraries includes the LSU Library and the adjacent Hill Memorial Library. Together, the libraries contain more than 4 million volumes and provide additional resources such as expert staff, technology, services, electronic resources, and facilities that advance research, teaching, and learning across every discipline.
