Frances Watson joins LSU Libraries as desk supervisor

Frances WatsonFrances Watson recently joined LSU Libraries as the new desk supervisor in Access Services. However, she is not new to LSU.  She was recently awarded for her 20 years of service to the university. She began her LSU career as a prospect researcher for the LSU Foundation; a position she held for five years. Afterward, she worked with the College of Science for about 15 years.

In the 1990s, she became a student worker in Education Resources, formerly a department in the LSU Libraries, when she returned to school to earn her B.S. in Education. Afterward, she became a library associate for the same department. Watson’s goals in her positions were to always “strive to leave things better than she found them.”

Her current duties at LSU Libraries include helping at the circulation desk, putting books on reserve for faculty, updating patron records, and managing the Gear 2 Geaux collection. The Gear 2 Geaux program is offered to students and allows them to check out various forms of technology ranging from Chromebooks, calculators, and MacBooks for free.

Watson was born in Atlantic City, NJ. However, her family moved repeatedly across the nation due to her father’s work. He too earned a degree at LSU. Watson has lived in Virginia, Missouri, Minnesota, Oregon, Texas, Illinois, and lastly, Louisiana. However, she considers Louisiana her home as she has lived here for over 35 years. Whenever she is not walking her rescue Great Dane, Archer, around the lake or learning how to play the ukulele, she is hard at work in the LSU Library.

The LSU Libraries includes the LSU Library and the adjacent Hill Memorial Library. Together, the libraries contain more than 4 million volumes and provide additional resources such as expert staff, technology, services, electronic resources, and facilities that advance research, teaching, and learning across every discipline.
