Boasting a wide array of digital resources for its patrons, LSU Libraries announced three new subscriptions available now in their digital collections: Film and Television Literature Index, Women’s Wear Daily Archive, and Communication Source.

Film and Television Literature Index

“My classes cover theatre, television, and film creative and scholarly work. The Film & Television Literature Index is a needed tool to fill a gap in resources for all aspects of performance. A particular strength of the index is the historical content that allows students to take deep dives into the evolution of media. Students are already familiar with EBSCO, so the utility of the new index is accessible and easy to use,” said Rockford Samson, assistant professor of voice at the LSU School of Theatre.

EBSCO’s Film & Television Literature Index™ with Full Text is the definitive online tool for film and television research. Subject coverage includes film and television theory, preservation and restoration, screenwriting, production, cinematography, technical aspects, and reviews. The database provides cover-to-cover indexing and abstracts for more than 380 publications (and selected coverage of 300), as well as full text for more than 120 journals, and 100 books. In addition, Film & Television Literature Index with Full Text includes Variety movie reviews from 1914 to the present and more than 36,300 images from the MPTV Image Archive.

Women’s Wear Daily Archive

“LSU's commitment to research first is demonstrated in our recent acquisition of the Women's Wear Daily (WWD) archive. Scholars of fashion history, women's history, gender studies, American business history, and many more will benefit from this rich content dating to 1910. WWD traces the development of American fashion, and the women who wore it, like none other. I am so impressed that we have acquired this excellent resource, and I cannot wait to use it and share it with my students,” said Michael E. Mamp, associate professor in the LSU Department of Textiles, Apparel Design, and Merchandising.

This resource from ProQuest is an archive of Women's Wear Daily, from its launch in 1910 to recent issues,* reproduced in high-resolution images. Pages, articles, advertisements, and covers have been included, with searchable text and indexing. The Women's Wear Daily Archive preserves one of the fashion industry's most influential reads. Key moments in the history of the industry, as well as major designers, brands, retailers, and advertisers are all covered in this publication of record.

Communication Source

“I teach research sessions for LSU’s communication studies classes, like 'Introduction to Public Speaking.' Communication Source has been nothing less than a godsend, and I am thrilled for the Libraries to acquire it permanently. Among other things, it will help students find more relevant materials for their speeches. It is the resource I have wanted to direct communication studies students to that is truly specific to their departments—for example, psychology and sociology.
